How I found my way to design
It took a year of law school to realize I was meant for something that mixed analytical thinking with a bit more creativity. I initlaly found that outlet in photography, then graphic design, then designing for the web. That pivot led me to discover my true passion: solving complex problems that improve people's lives.
Interestingly the principles I learned in both law school and photography translated beautifully to enterprise app design. Storytelling, composition, the power of the right perspective - these fundamentals worked just as well in user journeys as they did in the darkroom. Since, I’ve remained endlessly fascinated by how thoughtful design could remove barriers and create experiences that people actually enjoyed using.
What I’ve been working on
Most recently, I built and led the design organization at NetDocuments, growing to 10 design professionals while establishing user research and content strategy functions. I made a tremendous and positive impact on the product experience in short time, while showing how design can be a strategic advantage.
Why I love design
It's creating positive outcomes for people that drives my enthusiasm for design. When that happens, the benefits and rewards flow back to support what’s critical for business, whether that’s cementing customer loyalty, reducing internal support spend, or wowing the next prospect.
How I create world-class experiences
Focus on outcomes, not output. I start by strategically understanding and aligning customer outcomes with positive business results. Then, create a high-performing team and environment that allows everyone to rapidly arrive at evidence-based decisions while properly weighing opportunities and constraints. This approach delivers products customers love with results businesses crave.
How I develop successful design teams
Hiring talented individuals is just the start. Then, it's about creating the conditions where they can do their best work. I focus on building psychological safety, establishing clear success metrics, active coaching, and supporting with ongoing development opportunities. Most importantly, I create systems that let designers focus on solving meaningful problems rather than navigating production complexity. The teams I've built consistently deliver exceptional results because they have the foundation, focus, and freedom to excel.
What I’m curious about
I'm fascinated by how emerging technologies will reshape human experiences. Electrification goes far beyond vehicles to reimagining entire transportation ecosystems. AI and machine learning represent more than chat interfaces; they're tools for augmenting our capabilities while preserving what makes us fundamentally human.
